• Bio2RDF version of OBO database (http://www.ob ofoundry.org/): The OBO Foundry is a collaborative experiment involving developers of science-based ontologies who are establishing a set of principles for ontology development with the goal of creating a suite of orthogonal interoperable reference ontologies in the biomedical domain. The groups developing ontologies who have expressed an interest in this goal are listed below, followed by other relevant efforts in this domain.
• OBOTools - co-ode-owl-plu gins - A set of tools to aid OBO editors - Google Code: A very simple little hierarchy view that filters out the top level deprecated classes using a set of extensions to Protege that make it easier for OBO ontology developers to find their way around and edit OBO ontologies in OWL. In the OBO2OWL translation obsoleted terms have no parents and are marked with an annotation to say that they have been deprecated. This means they can get in the way when tools don't take them into account.

Interest in UB philosopher Barry Smith's new approach to ontology has spurred the development of UB as an international center; it also is beginning to attract to Buffalo information technology firms eager to collaborate. To tackle an increasing global infectious disease burden and rising rates of drug-resistant infections, University at Buffalo philosophers are working with medical researchers to develop the first-ever infectious disease ontology. Ontology is the science of how things are classified and the relationships between them. When researchers in biology and medicine use ontology classification s, they are able to speak the same "language ."
